The DylanTalks are reflecting discussions from the comp.lang.dylan newsgroup. The ToC of the Dylan Reference Manual (DRM) is the frame of the presentation. This means ---while still presented in the style of discussions --- the topics have been sorted along the DRM's table of content.

In short words: DylanTalks are together with the Dylan Reference Manual a kind of Annotated DRM.

The Dylan language was developed by the Cambridge Labs of Apple in the early nineties.

On the newsgroup comp.lang.dylan you can find discussion since 1992. Here we summarize some core discussion. Our selection has four main topics.

  • intro
Here topics listed which we feel are appealing to newcomers. My favorit is where Neel shows how you can program imperative, functional, and object-oriented in Dylan
  • program control
Read here how to become comfortable with multi-value binds and control flows in Dylan. Further elaboration is required here, Also we think that exceptions should be mention here. But what's your opinion.
  • concept
This section sort the topic similar to the table of content of the Dylan Reference Manual (DRM). A first approach to generate an Annotated DRM

We are currently in the process to improve this site. Please send your comment to dylan-talks@fun-principles.info or comp.lang.dylan

Parallel to our process an original commercial Dylan implementation will be published as Open Source. In the days of the Cambridge Labs Harlequin was a development partner of Apple for Dylan. After a sell and reorganisation the Dylan part operated under Functional Object. Functional Object has moved their sources now to the Gywdion Project.
